Wire - The 15th

It's time for an oldie here again at The Daily Soup and this time it's from Post-Punk pioneers 'Wire'.
'The 15th', originally taken from their third album '154' from 1979, here preformed live in that same year on German television.
This song was also covered by Fischerspooner during that whole Electro-Clash episode in the early 00's.

Happy Birthday Mike

Today is the birthday of one special dude, he's called Mike Patton and you might know him from his most famous band Faith No More but this guys is involved in a whole lot of stuff from easy listening to grinding hardcore screeches.

Lately Faith No More have preformed alongside with guitarist Trey Spruance (of the band Secret Chiefs 3) the entire 'King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime' album.
From this show I chose the song 'Absolute Zero' which is probably my favorite FNM song.

So happy birthday Mike, see you in the 2012 Mr. Bungle reunion tour ;)

Lower Dens

Baltimore has produces some great outfits lately like Wye Oak and Celebration and now we will turn the spotlight on Lower Dens.
Like those two band mentioned earlier, Lower Dens too have a female vocalist, which makes me think I'm starting to like them Baltimore girls.

Lower Dens have just released a single called 'Brains' from their forthcoming album 'Nootropics' which should hit the streets round May.

Lower Dens - Brains

This single led me to their first album from 2010 called 'Twin-Hand Movement', from it I picked the song "I Get Nervous' here preformed live in some sort of library/shop/den. It has a very minimalistic charm to it.

Also ran into this weird promo that came out along with their 'Batman' single from 2011. It has some useful cooking tips you can use.

What goes around comes around

Take a few minutes to listen to this song while you read a few facts about it.
This song was written by Dr. John, a musician from New-Orleans, although the performers here are Johnny Jenknins and Duane Allman from the Allman Brothers.

The opening first drum beat of this song were sampled by Oasis on their song "Go Let It Out" from Their album  "Standing on the Shoulders of Giants", which is a quote by Isaac Newton about the evolution of science and the reliance on past discoveries to achieve further progress.

This song was covered by Paul Weller on his album "Stanley Road" with Noel Gallagher on acoustic guitar, this cover was later featured in the final scene of the final season of the HBO TV show "The Wire".

The creator of The Wire, David Simon, later came to doing "Treme" which is a series about the life and music of New-Orleans after the Katrina hurricane, in it there are several guest appearances of real musicians including Dr. John.

Sulking on the 90's

Having grown up and discover music in the 90's I must admit that this whole 90's nostalgia wave is kinda making me feel old.

This new British band called Sulk studied every move, note and hair line bands like Ride and The Stone Roses were all about.
The result, I have to say, is quite fun. See for yourself:
